Passengers traveling on the North Bengal Express from Sealdah to Bamanhat faced significant delays on Thursday when the train's electric engine broke down in the Banidas area of Okrabari. The incident, occurring shortly after the train departed Dinhata station, brought the journey to an abrupt halt, stranding the train for over four hours.
The unscheduled stop caused considerable panic among passengers and residents in the Okrabari area, as the North Bengal Express was running more than four hours behind schedule by 2:30 pm. The engine driver and other railway officials immediately began efforts to repair the faulty engine, working diligently to restore power and get the train moving.
After a prolonged wait of over four hours, the engine was successfully repaired, allowing the train to resume its journey towards Bamanhat. However, by then, news of the breakdown had already reached Bamanhat station and other railway authorities, who were monitoring the situation.
The incident highlights the challenges faced by railway operations, particularly with unforeseen technical glitches. While the immediate focus was on repairing the engine and minimizing further delay, the prolonged halt undoubtedly caused inconvenience to the passengers en route to Bamanhat.
