A man from Rajasthan was killed and another seriously injured in an alleged assault linked to a fake gold transaction in Kolkata’s Behala Parnasree area. On 22 June 2025, at approximately 2:30 AM, officers from Parnasree Police Station, while on routine patrol near Dharmarajtola, found Deepak Singh (33) lying injured by the roadside. He informed police that he and his relative Mahender Singh (55) had been attacked by a group of individuals known to them.
Following this, police located the body of Mahender Singh lying in front of 9, M.G. Saha Road. No blood was found at the site, indicating it may not have been the primary location of the assault. Both victims were taken to Vidyasagar Hospital, where Mahender Singh was declared brought dead. Deepak Singh, due to the severity of his injuries, was later transferred to SSKM Hospital for further treatment.
Based on Deepak’s complaint, police registered a case against Sanjib Karmakar, Biswajit Biswas, Chandan Ghosh, and other unknown associates. Preliminary findings revealed that the victims had allegedly sold fake gold ornaments to the accused. Upon discovering this, the accused reportedly summoned the victims to a construction site associated with Biswajit Biswas, where the assault took place. Police have stated that the investigation is ongoing and multiple leads are being examined.
Eight individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. The alleged fake gold items were recovered and seized. Police have informed the Detective Department and the Scientific Wing, and CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being reviewed as part of the investigation.
