The decomposed body of Dilip Shaw, a key witness in the murder case of Trinamool Congress leader Ashok Shaw, was recovered late Saturday night from a drainage canal near Palghat Road in the Jagaddal police station area. Dilip Shaw, who was also a relative of the deceased leader, had been missing for three days. His family had lodged a missing person complaint with the local police.
Local residents alerted authorities after a foul smell emerged from a drain near Palghat Road. Police reached the spot and recovered the body, which was in a decomposed state. It was identified as Dilip Shaw and was sent for post-mortem examination. Forensic teams were called to examine the site, and a detailed investigation was launched.
Ashok Shaw was shot dead in broad daylight at a tea stall on the day of the by-election. Dilip Shaw had witnessed the shooting and was listed as a prime witness in the case. Following the recovery of his body, police have begun further inquiry to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
