Kolkata bans hoardings, allows ads only on LED monopoles under new KMC policy

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has introduced a new citywide advertisement policy that permits advertisements only on LED monopoles. Traditional hoardings and banners will no longer be allowed. The state government has approved the policy, and implementation will begin soon across all areas under KMC jurisdiction.

Mayor Firhad Hakim stated that separate tenders will be issued for each road, aiming to bring structure to the advertisement process. According to the civic body, this change is intended to stop unauthorized advertisements and ensure that all advertising activity is recorded and regulated. KMC officials claim that the new model will increase revenue and close existing gaps that led to tax losses.

Prominent advertisement operators in the city have supported the move. Sudip Roy Chowdhury, an advertisement agency owner, said the new policy will introduce transparency from rate charts to ad designs. He added that the system would be more organized and better managed.
