A businessman from Begusarai, Bihar, was abducted near Howrah Bridge on Monday night by four individuals. The victim, Amrit Raj, was taken from in front of a hotel in the Golabari police station area and was initially confined in a hotel room nearby. Later, he was shifted to a lodge in the Patrasayer area of Kolkata.
The kidnappers contacted Amrit Raj’s family and demanded a ransom of ₹1 lakh. After receiving the complaint, Golabari police launched a search operation. Based on location tracking and intelligence inputs, the police conducted raids and successfully rescued the victim from the Patrasayer lodge without any injury.
The four accused—Bimlesh Kumar, Manzoor Alam, Jairul Rahmat, and Deepjoy Banerjee—were arrested during the operation. All four are currently in police custody. Officials have stated that a full investigation is underway to examine the network and identify any additional individuals involved.
