Two students drowned and one is still missing after entering the Dwarkeswar River at Subhaspalli Ghat in Bankura on Monday afternoon. A group of 8–9 students from Bishnupur High School had reportedly bunked school and cycled to the river. Among them, Class 9 students Arkadeep Das, Sayan Chatterjee, and Parameshwar Mishra went into the water and began drowning after reaching a deeper area.
Rescue efforts began immediately with the help of local residents. On Tuesday morning, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) resumed search operations. The bodies of Arkadeep and Parameshwar were found floating a considerable distance from the incident site and were recovered. Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the search for the third student, Sayan Chatterjee, is still ongoing. Local authorities have continued the rescue operation and are coordinating with disaster response teams. No official statement on the circumstances or safety measures has been issued yet.
