Former BJP MP Dilip Ghosh has alleged that the Jagannath festival being held in Digha is entirely funded by the state government and is aimed at influencing voters ahead of the June 26 bypoll. Speaking on the issue, Ghosh said, “This event is completely being conducted with government money, and its only purpose is to gather votes before the by-election.” He criticized the state administration for focusing on religious events while, according to him, ignoring major issues like unemployment and lack of development work.
Ghosh further claimed that despite rising joblessness, the administration is solely engaged in preparations for the Rath Yatra. “Rath Yatra has been taking place in this country for 600 years, but here it has been turned into an event — only for electoral gain,” he said. He added that people seeking jobs are left waiting and that no one is engaging with them. “Who knows whether schools will open next year or not?” he questioned, pointing to concerns over the state of education.
