Cooch Behar woman kills 3-year-old daughter, tries to kill son and herself

A woman allegedly strangled her three-year-old daughter to death and attempted to kill her five-year-old son before trying to take her own life in the Jagirbalabari area of Chaudhuri Hat 3, Block 2 in West Bengal’s Dinhata. The incident occurred around 12 noon. The accused, identified as Momina Bibi, reportedly used a scarf in her suicide attempt.

According to police, Momina first strangled her daughter and then tried to harm her son. Hearing the child’s screams, local residents rushed to the spot and intervened. They rescued the woman and immediately informed the authorities. Police teams from Sahebganj Police Station and Nayarhat Outpost reached the scene shortly after and took the woman into custody.

The police recovered the body of the three-year-old girl from the house. The five-year-old boy escaped with minor injuries and is now in the care of family members. The woman is currently under arrest and has been taken for medical examination. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the act.
