Three youths died and one sustained serious injuries in a road accident in the Patharpratima area of South 24 Parganas district early Saturday morning. The incident occurred near Arjun More under Ramganga Gram Panchayat when their motorcycle skidded on a rain-soaked road and fell into a roadside drain. The deceased were identified as Subrata Mandal (24), Deepankar Mandal (19), and Mostakin (32). The injured, Sanjay Mandal (19), was initially taken to Gadamatthura Primary Health Centre and later referred to Diamond Harbour Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Police said all four youths were working under a contractor on deep tube well installation projects in Patharpratima. After completing their work on Friday night, they went out on a motorcycle to visit a Rath Mela in the area. The accident took place while they were returning. The region had been experiencing continuous rainfall since morning, and during that time, their bike reportedly lost control and overturned into the drain.
Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing the sound of the accident. Three of the four riders were found dead on the spot, while Sanjay Mandal was rescued in a critical condition and taken for immediate medical care. The bodies of the deceased were recovered, and further investigation into the circumstances of the crash is underway.
