A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 35-year-old neighbor in Bankura’s Sonamukhi town after being lured to a pond with the promise of mangoes. The accused, identified as Saptarshi Nag alias Pintu, was arrested on Monday and produced before the Bishnupur Sub-Divisional Court. Police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon near a Kali temple, where the child was playing. The accused, a local resident known to the girl, allegedly approached her offering mangoes. When she refused to go, he reportedly forced her to a secluded pondside area and committed the assault. The minor was allegedly threatened with death if she revealed the incident. She later returned home in pain and narrated the incident to her family.
The family filed a complaint, following which police initiated an investigation. The child was first taken to Sonamukhi Hospital and later referred to Bishnupur Hospital for further treatment. Bishnupur SDPO Suprakash Das said, “The accused has been arrested and produced before court. An investigation is underway under POCSO charges.”
