The West Bengal government’s telemedicine initiative, ‘SwasthyaIngit’, has recorded over 6 crore teleconsultations since its launch in August 2021. The program, led by the state's Health Department, is aimed at delivering healthcare services to residents across the state, particularly in rural and remote areas. The service provides medical consultations through digital platforms, enabling access to doctors and specialists without the need for physical hospital visits.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has publicly congratulated the healthcare professionals involved in the initiative. In a statement shared on social media, she expressed her appreciation, saying, “Team doctors, nurses, paramedical staff along with all those associated with this unique initiative” deserve credit for the achievement. She extended her gratitude to the workforce for their efforts in improving healthcare accessibility across West Bengal.
The ‘SwasthyaIngit’ platform is currently operational through over 10,000 SuSwasthya Kendras spread across the state. These centres act as local hubs for teleconsultations, where patients can connect with healthcare professionals using video conferencing tools and other digital infrastructure. This network has helped bridge the gap between urban medical expertise and rural healthcare needs.
The program offers consultations in various medical specialties, including neurology, nephrology, cardiology, oncology, and paediatrics. This has allowed patients from districts and remote villages to access expert medical advice without travelling long distances. Trained staff at SuSwasthya Kendras assist patients in navigating the consultation process, making services accessible even to those unfamiliar with technology.
According to official data, the 6 crore teleconsultations mark represents the cumulative number of sessions completed through the initiative in less than four years. The milestone reflects the operational scale and continued use of digital healthcare services in the state, supported by a coordinated effort from doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, and administrative teams.
