Sodepur flyover to shut every weekend from July 19 for urgent structural repairs
The Calcutta High Court has directed Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami to pay ₹4 lakh per month in alimony to his estranged wife Hasin Jahan and their daughter. As per the order, ₹1.5 lakh will be paid to Jahan and ₹2.5 lakh to their daughter every month. The decision comes after over six years of legal proceedings that began in 2018.
Shami and Jahan were married in 2014 and separated in 2018 after Jahan accused the cricketer of domestic violence and adultery. Following the allegations, she filed a petition in Alipore court, which had earlier granted ₹80,000 per month as interim maintenance for their daughter.
After the High Court ruling, Hasin Jahan said, “The way he leads his lifestyle, ₹4 lakh is less. We demanded ₹10 lakh four years ago. The cost of living has increased now. And we will demand it again. This judgment is a big win for me. I'm thankful to Imtiaz bhai and the Hon'ble Judge of the High Court. But I still think we should be getting a higher amount of money so I can take care of our daughter and meet her needs.”
Jahan's lawyer, Imtiaz Ahmed, confirmed the court order and stated that there is a possibility of the maintenance amount being increased. He said, “From 2018 to 2024, she had been running from pillar to post. Ultimately, it was pronounced in open court yesterday that ₹1.5 lakh would be provided for Hasin Jahan, ₹2.5 lakh for the daughter, and that any time the daughter requires assistance, it would be provided by Mohammed Shami.”
Ahmed also mentioned that the High Court has asked the trial court to dispose of the main maintenance application within six months. He added, “There is a high chance that when they return to the trial court to conclude the hearing on maintenance, it might be upgraded to ₹6 lakh because the claim of Hasin Jahan in her maintenance application was for ₹7 lakh and ₹3 lakh.”
