The Calcutta High Court on Thursday heard a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in connection with the alleged rape incident at Kasba Law College. A division bench of Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Smita Das directed the state government to submit the investigation report and the case diary. The court also instructed the concerned college authorities to file an affidavit regarding the incident. The next hearing has been scheduled for the following Thursday, by which time both the state and the college must file their respective responses.
During the hearing, the family of the victim stated that they have faith in the investigation being conducted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Kolkata Police. The family informed the court that they do not want the case to be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). They expressed satisfaction with the current progress and handling of the case by the SIT.
Kolkata Police's Intelligence Department has taken over the investigation from the SIT. The probe is currently being handled by the department, which has assumed full control of the case. The court has not issued any direction regarding a change in the investigating agency.
