A female junior doctor at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital has accused a male intern of sexual harassment inside the hospital’s operation theatre. The alleged incident took place on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the doctor submitted a written complaint to college principal Dr Mausumi Banerjee, stating that the intern behaved inappropriately with her inside the OT and made obscene gestures.
Following the complaint, the college administration informed the Gender Harassment Cell and began preliminary procedures for internal inquiry. College principal Dr Banerjee confirmed that a meeting has been scheduled for Friday to discuss the matter, stating, “A meeting will be held on Friday where further investigation and action will be planned.” The principal also mentioned that the matter is being addressed through the proper institutional channels.
The intern accused in the complaint has denied all allegations, stating that he is being falsely implicated. The college administration has confirmed that a formal probe has been initiated and further steps will be based on the report submitted by the Gender Harassment Cell.
