TMC panchayat member allegedly assaults woman, video goes viral | Watch

A Trinamool Congress (TMC) panchayat member in the Falakata area of Alipurduar district has been accused of indecent behavior and assault on rural women, leading to a significant stir in state politics after a video of the incident went viral. The footage, widely circulated on social media, reportedly shows accused leaders Asit Kar and Arjun Das manhandling and abusing women in the Kunjannagar area of Falakata.

According to initial reports, the altercation stemmed from a dispute over a development project in the village. Local women had opposed the project work and had gathered to try and stop it, leading to the alleged misbehavior and assault by the panchayat members. The disturbing video of the incident was first shared on social media by Falakata BJP MLA Deepak Burman.

Following its widespread circulation, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Shubhendu Adhikari, seized upon the incident, posting about it on Friday night and heavily criticizing the state government. The incident has reignited political tensions in West Bengal, with the opposition using the video to highlight alleged misconduct by ruling party members and to question the safety of women in rural areas. Authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the matter based on the viral footage and the public allegations.
