A chain collision involving four buses carrying Amarnath Yatra pilgrims on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Friday resulted in injuries to 36 passengers. The accident, which occurred early near the Chanderkot Langer site, was primarily caused by the brake failure of one of the buses in the convoy.
According to officials, the last vehicle in a Pahalgam-bound convoy lost control and collided with stationary vehicles ahead of it, triggering the multi-bus pile-up. While four buses were damaged, most of the 36 injured yatris sustained only minor injuries. The District Administration, already present at the site, responded swiftly, immediately shifting the injured to the District Hospital Ramban for treatment.
Deputy Commissioner of Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan, along with other senior officials including DIG DKR Shridhar Patil and SSP Ramban Kulbir Singh, visited the hospital to oversee the medical care provided to the injured. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh also spoke with the Ramban Deputy Commissioner regarding the accident. After receiving initial medical attention, the pilgrims were promptly shifted to other vehicles to continue their onward journey. The annual Amarnath Yatra, which commenced on July 3 and will conclude on August 9, is proceeding with strict safety protocols and constant supervision by the administration.
