West Bengal is bracing for heavy to very heavy rainfall across various parts of the state, particularly in South Bengal, due to a combination of active cyclonic circulation, an east-west trough line, and strong monsoon flows. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for very heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday for several districts, with continuous rainfall expected until at least next Monday.
According to the Alipore Meteorological Center, districts including Bankura, Purulia, West Medinipur, Jhargram, Hooghly, Nadia, and East Burdwan are under a red alert, indicating the likelihood of torrential downpours. The combined effect of a double trough line and cyclonic pressure is expected to bring widespread heavy rain across most districts of South Bengal, with some areas possibly experiencing excessive rainfall.
Kolkata is also forecast to receive scattered rain with thunderstorms, contributing to the persistent wet conditions across the state. Intermittent rain will continue for the next few days as active monsoon winds prevail. Residents in affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions, as intense spells of rain could lead to temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas and potential traffic disruptions.
