Senior BJP leader and former West Bengal state president Dilip Ghosh sparked political discussions on Sunday after making a cryptic statement from his dragon fruit orchard in Kharagpur. While inspecting the fruits in his garden, Ghosh remarked, “Something special is going to happen on the 21st—a jolt that the whole of Bengal will witness. Dreaming is not a crime.” His comment quickly drew attention, coming just weeks after changes in Bengal BJP’s leadership.
July 21 holds political significance in West Bengal as it marks the Trinamool Congress’s annual Shahid Diwas rally. The event is considered one of the party's biggest political gatherings. Ghosh’s vague but pointed remark led to questions about his possible plans for that day, including whether a major political move or announcement is on the cards.
When approached for clarification, Dilip Ghosh said, “Dilip Ghosh does not change flowers, he makes them bloom. Just as I cultivated dragon fruit on wild land, I can do something new in politics too.” He did not comment further on the nature of the “jolt” he referred to, leaving room for speculation. Sources close to Ghosh indicated that he will remain in Kharagpur on July 21 and that preparations are underway for a message or declaration.
The remarks come amid visible signs of Ghosh’s marginalisation within the party. He was not invited to the welcome programme of newly appointed state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya. Party insiders have noted his recent absence from key organisational events. Some BJP members reportedly view his recent actions as a sign of internal disagreement.
Trinamool Congress sources have not responded officially to the remarks or speculation surrounding Ghosh. However, some party functionaries have stated that while Ghosh is unlikely to join the party, no political outcome can be ruled out at this stage. As of now, no formal confirmation has been given by any political party or leader regarding Ghosh’s future plans.
