Mamata Banerjee, Omar Abdullah to hold high-stakes meet at Nabanna on July 10
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heavy rainfall across Gangetic West Bengal due to a low-pressure system and associated cyclonic circulation. The alert is expected to remain in effect for the next two days, raising the possibility of waterlogging and service disruptions in several parts of South Bengal.
In response to the continuous rainfall, the Sealdah Division of Eastern Railway has implemented 24x7 monitoring and field operations to maintain train movement across its jurisdiction. Despite widespread downpour, no trains have been cancelled under the division. Teams from the Engineering, Signal & Telecom, Operating, and other departments are working on an emergency basis to keep services functional and minimize delays caused by the weather.
Under the direction of Divisional Railway Manager Rajeev Saxena, the division is focusing on six key areas: patrolling during heavy rains, monitoring critical sections, controlling waterlogging using all available resources, incorporating loco pilots’ observations to assess situations, random checking of stabling of loads in yards and stations, and inspection of points and crossings. These measures are being prioritized to ensure safe train operations during the ongoing adverse weather conditions.
Overnight patrolling and coordinated departmental work have helped maintain uninterrupted train services so far. Trains are currently operating at reduced speeds to ensure passenger safety. As of now, there has been no cancellation of train services in the Sealdah Division despite the severe weather alert.
