A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has led to a heavy rainfall alert across several districts of West Bengal. According to the warning, gusty winds and tidal surges are likely to affect coastal regions. In response, the block administration in Gangasagar has started making announcements through loudspeakers, advising residents and visitors to remain cautious.
Fishermen are returning to shore from deep-sea zones following alerts of worsening weather conditions. Continuous rainfall over the past few days has weakened multiple river embankments in the Sundarbans region. The administration is closely monitoring these embankments, as tidal surges could lead to breaches or water entering surrounding localities.
Civil Defence personnel have been deployed at the Gangasagar sea beach near the Kapil Muni Ashram. Announcements are being made urging fishermen to avoid the sea and warning pilgrims not to enter the water. Authorities have imposed restrictions on sea access as a precautionary measure to prevent untoward incidents.
