Man, sister allegedly assaulted over his ‘illicit affair’ at Panihati councillor’s office

A youth and his sister were allegedly assaulted during a salishi sabha (arbitration meeting) held at the Ward 25 office in Panihati, North 24 Parganas. The meeting was called over allegations of an “illicit relationship” between the youth and a young woman from the same area. The youth and his sister were summoned to the ward office, where they were allegedly beaten and harassed. The sister has also alleged that her clothes were torn during the incident.

Following the altercation, Khardah Police arrived at the spot and took both the youth and his sister to the police station. They filed a written complaint against local councillor Himangshu Deb and several of his aides, accusing them of physical assault, verbal abuse, and public humiliation. The police have begun an investigation based on the complaint.

Councillor Himangshu Deb has denied all allegations and has filed a counter-complaint against the youth and his sister. He claimed the allegations were false and intended to malign his image. Police have confirmed receipt of both complaints and stated that statements are being collected from all parties involved.
