A police officer died in a road accident while on duty in the Sagardighi area of Murshidabad district, West Bengal. The deceased has been identified as Rajkumar Karmakar, who was posted at Sagardighi police station. The incident occurred when a lorry broke down on the National Highway, resulting in a heavy traffic jam. Rajkumar was deployed at the site to manage and ease the traffic situation.
During the clearance operation, a high-speed dumper truck hit the stationary lorry from behind and then struck Rajkumar Karmakar, who was standing nearby. He fell on the road due to the impact and was seriously injured. Locals and other officers immediately rushed him to Jangipur Sub-divisional Hospital, but the doctors declared him brought dead.
Following the incident, the local police registered a case against the dumper driver and launched an investigation. The accident led to temporary tension in the area, and additional police were deployed to control the situation and restore traffic movement. Senior officers visited the spot for further assessment.
