Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
Metro services were disrupted in Kolkata on Saturday after a person jumped onto the tracks at Central metro station. The incident occurred at around 11:55 AM on the up-line heading towards Dakshineswar, just as a train was entering the station. As a result, metro services between Girish Park and Maidan stations were suspended from 12 PM. Train movement was halted for nearly 30 minutes, and multiple trains were stranded at various stations on the North-South corridor.
According to metro sources, the incident led to an immediate stoppage of services in the central section. However, truncated services continued to operate between Girish Park and Dakshineswar in the north and between Maidan and Kavi Subhash in the south. Police and metro officials reached the site shortly after the incident. Efforts were initiated to remove the person and clear the tracks. The identity and condition of the individual involved have not yet been confirmed.
Commuters across several stations faced delays and overcrowding due to the disruption. Services in the affected stretch remained suspended at the time of reporting, with no official confirmation yet on the timeline for full restoration. Investigation into the circumstances of the incident is underway.
