Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Two Hindu men were found dead under suspicious circumstances in Bhangnamari village of East Midnapore’s Khejuri area on Saturday morning. The victims, Sudhirgh Paik and Sujit Das, had gone to attend a cultural event on Friday night organised during Muharram but did not return home. Their bodies were recovered near the event site the next day, causing unrest in the region.
Family members of the deceased alleged that both had injury marks on their bodies and termed the deaths as murders. They claimed the two men had no history of conflict and demanded immediate investigation. While the police have begun a probe into the incident, no official cause of death has been confirmed yet. Post-mortem reports are awaited to determine the exact reason behind the deaths.
Leader of Opposition and Nandigram MLA Suvendu Adhikari visited the site and called it a case of targeted killings. He said, “This is not just murder, it is an attempt to terrorise a particular community. Bengal’s law and order has collapsed. The culprits must be arrested immediately.” He also announced that the matter would be raised in the Assembly and, if needed, in Delhi. A bandh has been called in Khejuri on Monday, and a protest rally is scheduled from Janaka to Vidyapith More.
Trinamool Congress district committee member Shyamal Mishra stated that the incident was a tragic accident. According to him, both men came into contact with an electric current during the event. He accused the BJP of using the incident for political purposes. Security has been tightened in the area, and the administration remains on alert due to possible unrest during the planned bandh and protests.
