A 34-year-old woman named Mushtara Bibi was found hanging from a mango tree in Malda’s Sheikhpura area under Manikchak police station on Saturday morning. According to local and family sources, she had been missing since the night of July 9. Despite filing a missing diary with the police and conducting extensive searches, her whereabouts remained unknown for three days.
On Saturday, her body was discovered by residents in a mango orchard located around 500 metres from her home. As news of the discovery spread, local residents gathered at the spot, leading to tensions in the area. The police from Manikchak reached the site, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Mushtara Bibi’s husband, Sheikh Kamaruzzaman, is a daily wage labourer. The family confirmed that she had left home on July 9 and did not return. The investigation is currently underway, and police are waiting for the autopsy report to proceed with further action.
