One youth was killed and another critically injured after unidentified miscreants opened fire in broad daylight in Begusarai, Bihar, on Monday. The incident occurred near Bagha, Ward No. 24, Power House Gumti, under the Lohianagar police station's jurisdiction, where approximately 7-8 rounds were fired. The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Amit Kumar, who succumbed to his injuries during treatment, while his colleague, Prince Kumar, remains in critical condition.
According to preliminary reports, Amit Kumar, who collected barrier fees near the railway crossing, was sitting with staff Prince Kumar around 11:30 AM when four criminals arrived on two bikes and began firing indiscriminately. The two victims were shot approximately 200 meters from Begusarai railway station and were immediately rushed to the hospital by local residents. The Lohianagar police station, along with the Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sadar-01 Begusarai and an FSL team, swiftly reached the spot to initiate an investigation.
The shooting has created an atmosphere of tension in the area. At Sadar Hospital, a heated argument erupted between the police and the victim's family members, who sought to block the road with the body. However, Sadar-1 DSP Subodh Kumar and Cyber DSP Imran Ahmed intervened and convinced the family to allow the body to be sent for post-mortem examination. Police continue to probe the incident to identify and apprehend the unknown assailants.
