The Alipore CBI Court has framed charges against five individuals, including former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, in connection with an alleged financial corruption case. The charges have been filed under IPC Sections 420 (cheating), 409 (criminal breach of trust), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The court has fixed July 22 as the date for the commencement of trial.
The CBI filed a chargesheet in the case on November 29, naming Sandip Ghosh along with Afzar Ali, Biplab Singh, Suman Hazra, and Ashish Pandey. All five accused are currently in judicial custody. The investigation was initiated on the directions of the Calcutta High Court following complaints related to irregularities in hospital procurement. The matter concerns alleged malpractice in awarding tenders for medical equipment over a period of more than three years.
According to the complaint filed by the former deputy superintendent of the hospital, tenders were repeatedly manipulated under the pretext of equipment procurement. The complaint also stated that Sandip Ghosh allegedly helped his close contacts secure those tenders. The case involves scrutiny of administrative decisions, purchase records, and tender documentation made during the tenure of the accused.
