Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
A monk from ISKCON lost a bag containing ₹7 lakh in cash during Rath Yatra celebrations in East Medinipur’s Egra. The money, donated by devotees, was meant to be deposited in a bank. The incident took place on July 7 when the monk, Mahavir Madhusudan Das, was travelling with the bag on his motorcycle. The bag also contained a chequebook.
According to police sources, the bag fell off the motorcycle while the monk was riding. He reportedly did not notice the loss immediately. Upon realizing the bag was missing, he approached Egra police station and lodged a complaint. The police began an investigation and started reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas.
During the investigation, police identified a biker who was seen picking up the bag. The team tracked the bike using its registration number. The suspect was located, and both the ₹7 lakh in cash and the chequebook were recovered from his possession.
SDPO Devi Dayal Kundu stated, “After receiving the complaint, Egra police station initiated an investigation. A biker had taken the bag. He was traced through his bike’s number. The money and chequebook were recovered.” Monk Madhusudan Das said, “I lost sleep after the money went missing. I rushed to the police. I never imagined they would act so quickly. We are very happy.”
