No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
Sanitation workers blocked the road near Howrah Municipal Corporation on Wednesday, demanding an increase in salary and permanent appointments. The protest began in the morning as workers sat on the road, halting traffic movement in front of the civic body office.
The demonstration caused major traffic disruption, especially on routes leading to the municipal office and nearby court. Long queues of vehicles were seen as the road blockade continued, with commuters facing delays in the area.
Police reached the spot to manage the situation. The protestors remained seated, demanding that their services be regularised and their wages increased. No official statement was issued from the municipal authorities regarding the protest till the time of reporting.
