No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
A Bangladeshi national, identified as Sukumar Chandra Sheel, was arrested in the Khalbasti area of Naxalbari, Siliguri, for illegally staying in India and obtaining an Aadhaar card through fraudulent means. Officials said the arrest was made by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) during a raid based on specific information. After the arrest, Sheel was handed over to the Naxalbari police station late at night.
According to police sources, Sheel had illegally crossed into India from Bangladesh through the Fulbari border nearly four months ago. After entering, he travelled to Bagdogra and then to Naxalbari. Later, he went to Kaliaganj where he reportedly managed to secure an Indian Aadhaar card. Using the forged identity, he started living in a rented house in Naxalbari and was working as a barber in the locality.
During the raid, security personnel recovered both a Bangladeshi identity card and an Indian Aadhaar card from Sheel’s possession. Police have initiated further investigation into how the fake Aadhaar card was issued and whether others were involved in assisting his stay. The accused is currently in police custody and being questioned for additional details.
