Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
The Trinamool Congress's highly anticipated Shaheed Diwas celebrations, scheduled for July 21st near Victoria House in Dharmatala, have drawn the displeasure of the Calcutta High Court. With just four days remaining until the annual event, a case was filed in the High Court alleging that the massive gathering causes significant inconvenience to common people during busy hours.
The case was heard by the bench of Justice Tirthankar Ghosh. The plaintiff argued that the rally's traditional venue in the heart of the city leads to widespread disruption for commuters and residents. Responding to these concerns, Justice Ghosh stated, "I will put some conditions regarding this meeting." While the court acknowledged the short timeframe preventing a venue change for this year's event, it has specifically asked the state government to consider relocating the rally from next year onwards to minimize public inconvenience.
Preparations for the rally are already well underway, with Kolkata Police issuing multiple notifications for traffic control to manage the expected large crowd. The Trinamool Congress annually organizes this event to commemorate martyrs, a gathering that traditionally draws hundreds of thousands of party supporters from across the state to Dharmatala, often leading to major traffic diversions and congestion in central Kolkata.
