Illegal call center busted in Bhangar: 18 arrested & 24 phones, 22 hard disks, key documents seized

A joint raid was conducted by the Detective Department and Cyber Police Station on the night of July 17 at an illegal call center operating from the first floor of a building on Jodh Bhim Road, under Hatgachha Post Office, PS-KLC, District South 24 Parganas, Kolkata-700156. The operation was carried out in reference to Cyber PS, Kolkata GDE/No.400 dated 17.07.2025.

During the raid, 18 individuals were arrested for allegedly running a fraudulent call center. From the premises, police seized 24 mobile phones, 22 computer hard disks, 2 routers, 6 headsets, and several documents including call leads, customer data, screenshots of dialers, remote access software, and other related materials. The location was sealed for further forensic and procedural examination.

Among those arrested were the prime accused Wadood Ahmed and local handler Majid. Following the arrests, a search was conducted at the office of Wadood Ahmed, operating under the name "Ala Fashion" located at 1B/24, Kustia Road, Topsia, under the jurisdiction of Tiljala Police Station. Documents recovered during this search included a flat agreement, labour contract, various leave and licence agreements, and a cheque book in the name of Wadood Ahmed.

The case has been registered under multiple sections of the IT Act, 2000 — Sections 66, 66C, 66D, 84B, and 43 — along with Sections 61(2), 319(2), 318(4), 336(2), 336(3), 338, and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Investigation is ongoing.
