No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
An unidentified body was recovered from the Ganga river near Aatpur Ferry Ghat in Shyamnagar, North 24 Parganas, on Friday morning. The body was first spotted by ferry passengers during regular operations, following which local residents alerted the Jagatdal police station. Police personnel reached the spot promptly, retrieved the body from the water, and conducted an on-site inspection (panchanama).
According to police sources, no identity documents were found on the body. The deceased was a male, and there were no visible external injuries or signs of physical assault on initial examination. The body has been sent to the hospital for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death. Officers have begun verifying missing person reports in nearby police stations and localities.
The police are currently investigating the circumstances under which the body reached the ghat. Officials are examining upstream areas and ferry routes to trace any possible leads. As per the latest update, the identity of the deceased remained unknown, and no family had come forward to claim the body. Jagatdal police stated that further steps would be taken based on the post-mortem findings.
