West Bengal’s Information Technology sector has reported a significant expansion, with exports rising from ₹4,500 crore in 2011 to approximately ₹35,000 crore by 2025. The Bengal Silicon Valley Tech Hub in New Town, spread over 250 acres, has allotted all its land to companies. A total of 42 companies have joined the hub, out of which 19 have commenced operations and three are fully functional.
According to IT Minister Babul Supriyo, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is operating a large office at the hub, employing around 50,000 people. He stated that TCS officials have recently met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to discuss further investment plans in West Bengal. The government is working on policy frameworks to promote investment in advanced technology sectors such as semiconductors and Global Capability Centres (GCC).
Babul Supriyo also mentioned that efforts are underway to develop Kolkata as a major IT hub to create more job opportunities within the state. He said the objective is to ensure people from Bengal can find quality employment without having to migrate to other cities or countries.
