A man identified as Kiran Mandal alias Shankh was found hanging from the ceiling of his two-storey mud house in Mahurapur village under Mallarpur police station limits in Birbhum district on Saturday morning. His body was recovered by family members, and a handwritten suicide note was found at the scene.
In the note, the deceased named Mallarpur police station’s Officer-in-Charge Rajkumar Das as responsible for his death. The note stated, “Rajkumar Das is responsible for my death. I have been falsely implicated. He has destroyed lives before, and now mine.” It also said, “Mallarpur police, especially Rajkumar Das, should be punished. No one else is behind my death.”
According to family members, Kiran had been arrested about a month ago by Mallarpur police in connection with a robbery case. He remained in jail for nearly a month and was released on bail on July 15. No official response has been issued so far from the police regarding the allegations mentioned in the suicide note.
