5 policemen suspended over murder of gangster Chandan Mishra at Patna hospital

Five police personnel from Patna’s Shastri Nagar Police Station have been suspended for dereliction of duty following the killing of convicted gangster Chandan Mishra inside a private hospital. The suspended officials include one sub-inspector, two assistant sub-inspectors, and two constables. The action was taken after five armed assailants entered the hospital and shot Mishra while he was undergoing treatment.

The incident took place on Thursday on the second floor of Paras Hospital in Patna, where Mishra had been taken from Beur Jail on parole for medical treatment. According to police, five unmasked assailants entered the ICU, opened fire at Mishra, and escaped from the hospital premises. A CCTV clip showing the sequence of events surfaced shortly after, prompting questions over the existing security.

Superintendent of Police (Patna Central) Diksha confirmed the suspension of the five officers and said, “They have been suspended with immediate effect for dereliction of duty in connection with the murder of the convict inside a top private hospital on Thursday.” She added, “This raises serious questions over the security arrangements at the hospital. Investigators are certainly looking into any complicity that may have led to the security lapse.”

All five accused in the shooting were arrested during a joint raid by Patna Police and Special Task Force from a housing complex in New Town, Kolkata. Mishra had a criminal record of 24 cases, including more than 12 murder cases, and was being treated under escort when the incident occurred. A detailed investigation is ongoing into the security breach and any possible negligence.
