BJP bunrs tyre to protest poor road conditions, block traffic in Chinsurah

Roads in Chinsurah, including the crucial Chinsurah Hospital Road, have once again fallen into a dilapidated state, barely three months after undergoing repairs. This rapid deterioration, following prolonged delays, mutual blame games among government departments, and alleged inaction by ruling party leaders, has sparked widespread outrage. In response, local BJP workers, led by Chinsurah Mandal presidents Debamalya Niyogi and Tapan Sarkar, along with Hooghly District BJP General Secretary Suresh Sao, launched a strong protest and road blockade on Wednesday, bringing traffic to a standstill.

The protest escalated when BJP workers blocked the road leading to Chinsurah Hospital from Peoplepati More, directly in front of the Bishalakshi Temple. They resorted to burning tires and raising fervent slogans demanding the immediate and proper repair of the damaged roads, highlighting the severe inconvenience faced by daily commuters and residents.

The road remained completely blocked for approximately 30 minutes, causing significant traffic disruption and frustration among the public. Subsequently, police from Chinsurah Police Station arrived at the scene and attempted to clear the protesters from the road, leading to a confrontation.

During the police's intervention, a scuffle ensued between the law enforcement officers and the protesting BJP workers. Ultimately, the police had to use force to remove the demonstrators and clear the road, restoring partial traffic flow. This use of force further intensified the tension between the protesting party and the administration.

BJP leaders vehemently alleged that the government's repair work was merely a formality, a "khanapurti", designed to appease the public temporarily rather than genuinely address the problem. They claimed that the shoddy work has only exacerbated the public's problems instead of resolving them, pointing fingers at the quality of the recent repairs.
