Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal Suvendu Adhikari criticised the Trinamool Congress’ 21 July Martyrs' Day rally, calling it “not a rally, but Paglu dance.” Speaking to reporters before leaving Kolkata on Monday morning, he said the event was no longer about martyrs and alleged it was being used for political purposes.
Adhikari said, “The July 21 rally is not related to martyrs or their families. It is just a show.” He accused the ruling party of using the names of martyrs to hold political programmes. BJP and other opposition parties have made similar allegations, stating that the original purpose of the rally has been diluted over time.
After reaching Siliguri, Suvendu Adhikari took part in the ‘Uttarkanya Abhiyan’ along with BJP workers and supporters in North Bengal. Addressing the gathering, he said, “Trinamool is using the names of martyrs only to create a political platform.” The Uttarkanya Abhiyan is focused on raising regional demands and administrative issues in North Bengal.
