The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Aurangabad, Gaya, Rohtas, Purnia, and Katihar districts of Bihar, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and wind speeds ranging from 50 to 60 km/h in the next two to three hours. The alert was issued on Tuesday morning, with authorities urging people in the affected regions to remain cautious and indoors during this period.
Alongside the orange alert, a yellow alert was issued for nine other districts, including Bhagalpur, Munger, Khagaria, Supaul, Sitamarhi, Araria, Jamui, Purnia, and Katihar. These areas are expected to witness moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunder and lightning. People in these districts have been advised to avoid open spaces and take necessary precautions during adverse weather conditions.
Due to continued rainfall in the region, several rivers across Bihar are flowing above danger levels. The Ganga, Kosi, Gandak, Punpun, and Falgu rivers have shown rising water levels. In Patna, the Ganga River has crossed the red danger mark at multiple ghats, resulting in water entering several low-lying areas.
Disaster management teams have been placed on alert. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) units have been deployed in vulnerable areas along riverbanks. These teams are monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond to any emergency arising from rising water levels or extreme weather conditions.
