The body of a 37-year-old construction worker was found beneath an under-construction building near Ratanpur Ghat in Kolkata’s Cossipore area on Tuesday morning. The deceased was identified as Mithun Mandal, a resident of Bishnupur in South 24 Parganas. He had been working as a labourer at the construction site and was staying there with other workers.
Cossipore police reached the spot after being informed and recovered the body. Local sources said Mithun had been living at the construction site along with other labourers. Initial suspicion by police suggests he may have fallen during the night. However, the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and police have launched a formal investigation.
The authorities are trying to ascertain how the incident occurred and why other workers at the site were unaware. Questions have also been raised regarding the delay in shifting him to a hospital. Police confirmed that an inquiry is underway and further action will follow based on post-mortem and forensic findings.
