Two contract workers were arrested late Monday night in the Girish Ghosh Road area under Belur police station limits in Howrah. They were allegedly engaged in connecting an illegal water supply line to the Bally Municipality’s pipeline without official approval. The road was reportedly being dug during the night to carry out the connection work.
Local residents claimed they noticed the unauthorized activity and objected to it, but the workers continued. Residents then went to Belur police station and lodged a complaint. Acting on the complaint, police reached the spot and apprehended the two contract workers involved in the alleged pipeline tapping.
Police officials confirmed the arrests and stated that the Bally Municipality has been informed of the incident. They added that if a formal complaint is filed by the municipality, further legal action may be initiated and others linked to the operation could also be arrested.
