The weather in Kolkata and several districts of South Bengal is likely to take a sharp turn, with the Alipore Meteorological Department issuing warnings for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on Thursday. This development is due to a fresh low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal, which could impact daily life and agricultural activity across the region.
According to the forecast, heavy rain is expected today and tomorrow in districts including South 24 Parganas, with dark clouds already looming over the Sundarban region. Areas like Gangasagar, Patharpratima, Kakdwip, and Fraserganj have been placed under alert by the administration.
The Fisheries Department has issued a ban on sea fishing until further notice, and coastal police along with local authorities are making repeated public announcements warning fishermen to stay ashore. Gangasagar Coastal Police and block officials are actively involved in monitoring the situation and ensuring compliance.
Though rainfall had not started as of Thursday morning, weather conditions remain unstable, and the administration continues close surveillance, especially in the low-lying and coastal areas.
