In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Pradhan Nagar police of Siliguri Metropolitan Police arrested two persons with 20 kg of ganja late Wednesday night. The operation was carried out on National Highway No. 10, near Mahananda Bridge, based on specific intelligence inputs.
The accused, identified as Prasenjit Barman and Samir Roy, are residents of Cooch Behar. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a four-wheeler suspected to be carrying contraband. A thorough search led to the recovery of two 10 kg packets of ganja, cleverly concealed in the vehicle’s bonnet.
The duo reportedly brought the consignment from Cooch Behar to Siliguri for further distribution. Both have been taken into custody and are being interrogated to trace the larger network. The vehicle has also been seized as part of the investigation.
Officials confirmed that this arrest is part of a larger campaign to curb the growing narcotics trade along key transit routes connecting North Bengal with neighbouring states.
