Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
Kolkata Metro services on the Blue Line have been suspended beyond Shaheed Khudiram station after structural cracks were detected in four pillars at Kavi Subhash station. The issue surfaced on Monday afternoon and was confirmed by Metro Railway officials on Tuesday morning following an inspection. The affected pillars are located on the up-line platform and are structurally connected to the roof.
According to the Metro spokesperson, “Since the pillars with cracks are structurally connected to the platform roof, services at Kavi Subhash station have been temporarily halted, giving top priority to passenger safety.” The disruption is confined to the terminal point of the Blue Line, and metro operations are currently limited to the Dakshineswar–Shaheed Khudiram stretch.
Officials stated that the cracks were first noticed during routine checks and later confirmed after a detailed inspection. The exact cause has not been officially determined, but continuous rainfall in the region is being considered a potential contributing factor. No timeline has been announced for when services to Kavi Subhash will resume.
Despite the suspension on the Blue Line’s terminal stretch, services on the Orange Line—from Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (Ruby Hospital area) to Kavi Subhash—are running normally. Authorities have implemented public announcements at each metro station to inform commuters that trains will not be proceeding to Kavi Subhash on the Blue Line until further notice.
Repair and restoration work has started at the affected site. Metro authorities have said that the process will be carried out based on the condition of the structure. Until clearance is given, passengers travelling on the Blue Line will need to disembark at Shaheed Khudiram station.
