Angry mob vandalises TMC leader's house, sets fire over corruption allegations
A woman railway ticket examiner was allegedly assaulted by a female passenger at Canning station under Eastern Railway’s Sealdah South division on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. when the staffer, identified as Tanushree Ghadui, was checking tickets on the platform as part of her regular duty.
According to railway sources, the altercation started when Tanushree asked the passenger to show her ticket. The passenger allegedly began arguing without provocation, which quickly escalated into physical assault. Tanushree was reportedly attacked, and the accused tried to strangle her using the cord of her identity card. She sustained injuries during the assault.
Other railway employees and personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) intervened and managed to stop the attack. Tanushree was immediately rescued and moved to safety. However, the accused woman managed to flee the scene before she could be detained. The incident caused concern among railway staff present at the station.
A formal complaint regarding the incident has been filed with the Government Railway Police (GRP). Railway officials confirmed that the case is under investigation. They added that while disputes during ticket checking are not uncommon, this case has raised concerns due to the nature of the assault.
