A Class 5 student was allegedly molested in Bankura district’s Taldangra area while returning from a local market on Monday evening. Police identified the accused as Noor Islam Mallik, a resident of a nearby village. The incident took place when the girl went to buy chocolates and biscuits from a shop located a short distance from her neighbourhood. On her way back, the accused allegedly stopped her and forcibly dragged her into a dark alley.
The accused reportedly covered the girl’s mouth and molested her before she managed to escape and return home. Her family members said she fainted out of fear and later informed them about the incident after regaining consciousness. They visited the spot but found the accused missing. A formal complaint was lodged with the Taldangra police.
On Wednesday, the girl’s family saw the accused near her school premises. With the help of local residents, they apprehended him and informed the police. Officers from Taldangra police station arrived at the scene and arrested Noor Islam Mallik. He was produced before the Khatra sub-divisional court the same day.
