Six Bangladeshi nationals and one Indian agent were arrested late night from the Bat Tala area of Yousuf in Murshidabad’s Raninagar police station limits. The arrests were made based on specific inputs received by the police, following which a raid was conducted in the locality.
The arrested Indian national has been identified as Asril Sheikh, a resident of the Raninagar area. He is alleged to have aided the Bangladeshi nationals in entering India without valid documents. All seven accused were produced before the local court and were remanded to police custody for further questioning.
Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the purpose of the illegal entry and whether the group had any local links. Officials are also trying to determine the route used by the Bangladeshi nationals to cross the border. Regular arrests of illegal entrants have been reported from different parts of Murshidabad district in recent weeks.
