A Bangladeshi national, identified as Shanta Pal, was arrested by Kolkata Police for allegedly possessing forged Indian identity documents. The arrest was carried out by officers from Park Street police station in the Jadavpur area. Shanta Pal is a professional model and was reportedly associated with two well-known companies in Bangladesh. She has also participated in several beauty contests.
Police recovered multiple Indian documents from her possession, including Aadhaar and voter ID cards. Preliminary investigation revealed that she had been staying in a rented flat in the Bijoygarh area of Jadavpur since 2023. Officials found that she had listed different addresses on various documents, raising suspicion during verification.
According to police sources, Shanta was involved in app-based cab services, through which she came into contact with law enforcement. She was produced before the Bankshall court on Thursday, which remanded her to police custody till August 8 for further questioning. Police are currently probing how she acquired the documents and whether others are involved.
