Another KMC councillor, Biswajit Mondal arrested, after woman alleges molestation and threats
A massive fire broke out at the Day’s Medical pharmaceutical factory near Kolkata’s Bondel Gate on Saturday afternoon. The fire started around 4 PM and quickly intensified. Initially, four fire engines were sent to the spot, and later six more were deployed, bringing the total to ten. The entire area was soon covered in thick black smoke, causing visibility issues and respiratory discomfort among residents.
According to local sources, repair and welding work was underway inside the factory when the fire broke out. A worker present at the scene said, “Welding was going on. We asked the boy to stop and come down. Just after that, the fire broke out. We don’t know what happened.” Officials are checking whether anyone is trapped inside the building. No injuries or casualties have been reported so far.
The factory reportedly had a large quantity of chemicals stored, which may have contributed to the fire's rapid spread. Firefighters are working to control the blaze and reach the source. The Bondel Gate area, being densely populated, has been partially evacuated as a precaution. Efforts are ongoing to bring the situation under control.
