Madan Mitra leads symbolic Kanwar Yatra to 'protect Bengal and Bengali'

On the third Monday of the Shravan month, Trinamool Congress MLA Madan Mitra took out a Kanwar Yatra from his residence in Bhawanipur to the Nimtala Bhootnath Temple. The procession followed Hindu tradition and included around 50 devotees, who participated in the walk with decorated kanwars and maintained discipline throughout the route. The march was marked by Shiva chants and slogans in support of Bengali language and identity.

Mitra said the yatra was a response to incidents where people were allegedly insulted for speaking Bengali in different parts of the country. “It is unfortunate that people are being targeted just for speaking Bengali. This is not acceptable. I am here today, as a Shiv devotee, to seek Mahadev’s blessings and raise my voice for our language and culture,” he said upon reaching the temple before sunset.

The route from Bhawanipur to Nimtala echoed with chants like “Bengali and Bengal must be protected,” as participants walked several kilometres. Mitra stated that he, along with devotees, would continue to raise their voice against such incidents and stand in defence of Bengali language and cultural pride.
